Alright. So I very RARELY share any of the pictures from my photo shoots that I do. But I had to make an exception for this incredible shoot that I got to be a part of. A Canada based wedding photographer, Lushana Bale, made a special trip to my beautiful little island to style this vintage/boho wedding shoot. I was BEYOND honored to be a part of such a talented group of people and such an extensive collaboration! It was so inspiring to hear of her vision for this shoot before she got to the island, and then to watch it all come to be.
One of the reasons I have begun to love being in this industry is because I get to see so many amazingly creative people using their gifts alongside one another, capturing small moments in time and emoting such feeling & beauty through a simple picture, or a single shot. (Talk about inspiration!) So much planning goes into a shoot, things you would never think of when you see a photo displayed on your screen, on a blog, or in a magazine. For this particular shoot, Lushana collaborated with many different individuals–some in Canada and some in Hawaii. She got all the looks from different people/businesses: the ring, the veil, the dress, the different headpieces, & the lush bouquet of flowers. They were selected to match the style & theme of the shoot & they all added a new dimension to the look she was going for. Her and her assistant (aka husband) were a dream team for sure.
The day of was a whirlWIND of excitement, emphasis on the wind. It was a beautifully sunny day in Hawaii, but the winds were surely raging. We were hoping they would die down by the time we set out on our adventure. I arrived at the hotel she was staying at and made my way up to the beautiful room with a delicious view of the ocean. The hair/makeup artist quickly got to work setting up her station. Once she had all her gidgets and gadgets laid out, she was put to work. She got the (unfortunate) job of attempting to make me into a bohemian bride. It took about 2 hours, mind you. As she painted and brushed and dabbed me with all kinds of makeup, and styled my hair into loose waves I got to enjoy the incredible ocean view and relax. It’s a tough job for sure…
As we headed to the set location, we were sadly realizing the winds definitely had NOT died down. As we descended down into “Cockroach Cove”, a semi-secluded beach nestled between ginormous rock cliffs, we knew it was going to be a challenge. But, being the professional that she is, Lushana rocked the shoot and used the wind to her advantage. It definitely ended up working in our favor, and created some super unique shots. After an hour or two of shooting, climbing rocks, and dodging waves, we were exhausted & pretty windblown. We wrapped it up & called it a day. We deemed it a definite success.
And now, seeing all the pictures from the shoot, I am even more in awe of what a fantastic job she did capturing the beautiful Hawaiian scenery while creating an elegant bridal vibe. Having a creative outlet is SO important, and something I definitely crave more of. I was so thankful for this shoot and giving me the needed motivation to channel my inner creative side!
