There’s nothing more satisfying than a perfectly executed morning routine complete with a deliciously crafted cup of matcha or bulletproof coffee. I absolutely LOVE mornings. There is so much peace, so much beauty, and so many possibilities for the day ahead. I usually wake up pretty early, listen to the birds tweeting outside my window, and get my day started nice & relaxed. I love reading my bible as soon as I get up, sitting in my comfy plush chair, looking out at the beautiful Hawaiian sun rising in the sky… all after I have made my morning cup of whatever warm beverage I decide on. I have been hooked on matcha for a while now, not only for its numerous health benefits, but also for its smooth and earthy taste. Now, I’m typically an almond milk kinda girl. Mostly because it’s affordable, accessible, and good for you. But I was recently introduced to hemp milk in a small little coffee shop in Seattle (called Woodland–shoutout to the biggest cute of a coffeeshop), and when I tasted my matcha with that creamy delicious liquid…. I knew it was a game changer. I literally made a very loud exclamation in the coffee shop and looked at the barista and said, “IS THIS REAL? WHY IS IT SO CREAMY?” Okay, bye. Get it together, Tessa.
Anyways, after that incident I have been on the search for a good quality hemp milk. Finding hemp milk is one thing, but trying to find one without added fillers, gums, sweeteners, etc. has been a tricky quest indeed. So naturally, I decided to try making my own. This is always a great option for any product that you are looking for with clean, real, wholesome ingredients. When in doubt, make your own folks! And let me tell you, this turned out so much better than I expected. It is so unbelievably creamy, has a nutty taste, and gives your drink a beautifully thick frothy consistency. I used less water so my hemp milk was a little thicker, and also slightly sweetened it with about 3/4TBS of maple syrup (which is totally optional). If you’re looking to jazz up your morning cup of joe, your matcha latte, your overnight oats, or really just anything else…. give this a try.
Not only does it taste good but it has so many amazing health benefits. It is high in essential fatty acids (Omega 3 & 6), has TONS of protein (11g for 3TBS), has loads of vitamins, and is packed with calcium. It also helps skin, hair, nails, as well as supports a healthy immune system. I mean, I don’t know about you, but those sound like pretty good reasons to try this out. And did I mention how easy it is? Oh, yeah. Because it is.
Okay now you have no excuse not to make it!!
- ½ cup hemp seeds
- 3-4 cups filtered water (more water, thinner milk)
- Sprinkle of coarse sea salt
- 1 TBS maple syrup (optional)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- Blend all your ingredients into a high speed blender for a couple minutes, or until everything is successfully blended together.
- It is optional to strain your milk through a cheese cloth to remove the small particles of hemp seeds. I keep mine unstrained.
- Store your milk in an airtight container in the fridge. Will keep for about 5 days (but I doubt it will last that long... it's too tasty).
- Make sure to shake her up before you use!
